History

Since the granting of railway concessions in Mexico in 1995, the need arose for an organization that would represent the sector’s companies in a unified manner, driving their development, modernization, and competitiveness.

With this purpose, in January 2005 the Asociación Mexicana de Ferrocarriles, A.C. (AMF) was established, integrating the country’s freight railway companies. Since its creation, the AMF has consolidated itself as the main forum for representation and collaboration in Mexico’s railway sector, promoting public policies, operational safety, technological innovation, and sustainable growth.

In 2008, passenger railway companies joined the AMF, strengthening its integrating character and expanding its reach toward people mobility, with a vision of a modern, efficient, integrated, and safe national railway system.

Today, the AMF is a major decision-making actor at the national and regional level, due to what its members represent for logistics chains, supply, foreign trade, as well as in terms of safety innovation and international best practices.
